Tribute Concert

Taylor Hawkins

Working with Emer Pattern and her production company EP-PIC, Type40 created the stings and captions that were used for the London tribute concert to rock legend Taylor Hawkins.

Services used:

A poignant event to celebrate the live of Foo Fighter’s drummer Taylor Hawkins needed a set of graphics for use both on the big screens and for the broadcast that would end up on television later the same day.

The logo had already been designed, but Type40 were tasked with animating it and creating a suite of graphics for use, from the title cards to lower thirds.

The Taylor Hawkins Tribute  featured a series of high profile performers and was arranged by his Foo Fighter’s band mate, Dave Grohl.  Type40 worked with EP-PIC, the production company tasked with filming and helping to stage the event, so the graphic we produced served a dual purpose.  Not only would they be counting down to the start of the show and on the screens behind the artists performing, but they would also be used in the television broadcasts.

Bringing the logo to life

Working with the elements from the logo we set about animating the various parts, which including making the hawk glide in.  The logo was made to loop so it could be used as holding cards and also as lower third straps to introduce the various artists.  The colour scheme was tweaked to work on screen and we worked closely with both EP-PIC, management and Paramount to make sure everything was exactly as it needed to be.  After a couple of rounds of designs and animations the graphics were approved and were supplied ready for the day itself.

Being on standby…

Type40 were also asked to attend the gig itself and be on standby incase there were any last minute graphical needs.  Working in the broadcast truck in was a unique place to watch what was a really emotional day.   As part of our duties we were asked to design up the cue cards which David Chapelle would end up using in his section of the concert. We were so proud to be able to contribute a small part of the show and the graphics looked really good on the big screens.
