For the Muse’s cinematic experience Simulation Theory a trailer was needed and Type40 were brought in to produce it.
Working with editor Jon Walton, Type40 created the perfect trailer for the concert film. The aim was to build the action from the team heading to investigate the strange goings on, to the band performing their hits on the stage in front of the stadium crowd.
Simulation Theory was a concert film with a difference. Starting with a Stranger Things type story line, the concert takes the viewer on a journey through into the simulation. Working directly with the band’s management we worked on an initial edit, crafting a shorter version of the main film’s opening to start the trailer and take the user right into the action. Featuring scientists investigating strange events while wearing hazmat suits, their reality begins to break down, showing the band playing where they stand.
The sound was specially designed for the trailer, building into the first track with the eerie film like soundtrack. After refining the edit through a couple of versions, the final trailer is a spectacle in itself, a ride through into the simulation in which the band perform. Are we in the simulation, or are those on the other side looking in.
